History
Initially, on the site of the city was the farm "De-Ar" (which means "artery"), which was engaged in the extraction of groundwater. Because of its central location in 1881, the government bought the farm and built the first railway from Cape Town to Kimberley .
Economy
It is the country's second largest railway junction [3] , located on the route between Cape Town and Kimberley. This railway was of particular strategic importance to the British during the Second Boer War . De Ar is also the main shopping center in the vast area of central Karru . The economy is dominated by livestock and wool production. Hunting is also popular, despite the fact that the area has a dry climate.
Attractions
On the farms of Nooitgedacht and Brandfontein there are ancient Khoisan rock paintings. In addition, there is a "Garden of Memory" dedicated to the British military who died in the First Boer War .
The city has large ammunition depots. In the summer months, De-Ar becomes home to thousands of kestrels . Every evening birds fill the sky over the city and large trees.
