The flag of Kotovo is an identification mark compiled and used in accordance with the vexillological (flag-keeping) rules and is the official symbol of the city of Kotovo as a municipality , symbolizing its dignity and administrative significance, the unity of its territory and population, historical continuity, as well as the rights of local authorities self-government of the city of Kotovo, Kotovsky municipal district of the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation .

The current flag was approved on October 4, 2007 by Decree of the Kotovka City Council No. 172/26 [1] and was entered in the State Heraldry Register of the Russian Federation with assignment of registration number 3650.
Description
The first flag of the city was approved on December 26, 2006 by decree of the Kotovsk City Duma No. 115/19 [2] which approved the drawing of the flag.
On January 25, 2007, by resolution of the Kotovka City Council No. 133/20 [3] , the position, description and, again, the flag picture were approved:
The flag of Kotovo is a banner, the width and length of which are correlated as 2: 3, reproducing the symbolism of the coat of arms of Kotovo.
The heraldic description of the coat of arms , approved by the same decree, read:
In the purple shield there is a direct azure cross with a gold edging. In the central part of the cross, on a purple shield with a gold fringing, there is a golden rising cat holding a golden loaf of bread on a silver towel with a golden fringe, topped with a silver salt shaker.
At the top of the cross are six golden wheat ears laid fan-shaped.
On the left and right side of the cross are golden flames.
At the bottom of the cross is a golden salt shaker with silver salt depicted in a pyramid shape.
The shield is crowned with a golden tower crown of three prongs.
On October 4, 2007, by decree of the Kotovka City Council No. 172/26 [1] , a new drawing of the coat of arms of the city was approved:
In the purple field is a golden rising cat.
The flag picture and its description were also changed:
The flag of Kotovo is a rectangular panel with a 2: 3 ratio of width to length, reproducing the composition of the coat of arms of Kotovo in dark red and yellow colors
Justification of Symbols

The heraldic cat symbolizes independence, hospitality, wisdom, homeliness, the word "cat" is the root in the name of the city and the name of Kotenko - the first settler of Kotovo.
6 ears of wheat (by the number of letters in the name of the city). The ear is a symbol of prosperity.
Flames (lights) are symbols of minerals (oil and gas).
A salt-filled salt shaker is in memory of the first settlers of the Kotovo settlement engaged in the transportation of salt for the state treasury.
The azure background is the Kazanka River, on the banks of which the settlement of Kotovo was founded.
Red color - dignity, strength, power, piety, moderation, generosity.
Blue color (light blue ) - beauty, clarity, softness, greatness, honesty, impeccability.
Yellow color ( gold ) - wealth, justice, mercy, generosity, constancy, fidelity.
White color ( silver ) - nobility, frankness, purity, kindness, innocence.
