Youth
Novieski grew up in a very musical family in Northern Michigan . His uncle played bass and sang in a touring rock band, his brother plays drums , and his grandfather and grandmother played guitar , piano and accordion . Inspired by the example of his uncle, at the age of eleven he began to play the guitar, but then at thirteen he retrained for bass guitar and, as a teenager, performed in different groups. The choice fell on the bass because everyone played the guitars, and the groups needed bass players, which were few. Matt realized that it would be easier to find a job. At that time, bass players James Jamerson and Larry Graham from Sly & the Family Stone had a strong influence on him. His favorite musicians: Stevie Wonder , Herbie Hancock, Pearl Jam , The Pixies , Bjork , My Bloody Valentine and others.
In 1994, Matt graduated from Saint Francis High School in Traverse. He attended various colleges in Michigan and worked as a bartender, performing on weekends in various shows, including in the band Michigan, a popular group in Switch . Using the advice of one of his friends, Matt moved to Texas at the end of 1998 and decided to audition to enter Blue October .
Blue October
Matt joined the band in 1999 after the departure of Liz Malallay , who played bass in the original line-up. Noveski played guitar , bass and performed backing vocals for the first major October album, Blue October - Consent to Treatment . He also created the cover for the album and, together with Justin Furstenfeld, wrote the single James and the song You Make Me Smile .
Noveski toured a lot with the band in support of the album Consent to Treatment . He remained in the group even when Universal Records terminated their contract, but he had to leave for personal reasons on October 20, 2002. The band canceled the remaining concerts of the tour to rest and find a new bass player. Matt Noweski took part in the recording of History for Sale 's third album, where he shared bass parts with a new member, Duane Casey . But he finally returned to the group only in 2005. During his absence, Blue October never performed You Make Me Smile , written by Matt. The song became the opening track of the 2006 album - Foiled and for a long time was one of the main songs in the band's live performances.
Other activities
After leaving Blue October, Matt created a second band with Blue October technician Alan Adams. The new group, (a +) machines , also includes Ryan Holly and Chris Lynch. Novesky and Holly are the main singers and songwriters in the group, which released a five-track record and an album of live performances. After Novesky and Adams went on tour in support of the Blue October album - Foiled - there was a long lull in the work of (a +) machines . The band's last performance was in Austin , on June 16, 2007.
In his spare time from touring and recording, Noveski works as a bass player and producer with other musicians. In January 2008, he founded the production company “116” together with engineer and producer Chuck Alkazien. The duet works with the most prominent and promising musicians in modern show business, mainly recording in Detroit and Austin . Matt also tours on his own, often performing on the same stage with Justin Forstenfeld , Casey MacPherson, Johnny Gaudi and long-time songwriter Ryan Holly. In November 2007, Novesky and Holly announced that they were creating a new studio group to compose music for films and commercials.
In 2013, Novesky and his Blue October colleague, C. B. Hudson, opened the Orb Recording Studios in Austin, Texas. The following year, the studio was recognized as the best in Austin at the Austin Music Industry Awards.
In her free time, she lives in Austin , Texas with her wife Reagan and daughter Avery Grace, born on February 1, 2008.
