The Turkish Five ( Turkish : Türk Beşleri ) is the common name for a group of Turkish composers and innovators of the mid-20th century who brought Turkish academic music to the world level. Given by analogy with the Russian five - the name of the Russian group of composers “The Mighty Handful ”, common in Western European terminology. Active creative activity of all members of the group began in the mid-1930s; in addition to creating a number of works fundamental to the national musical tradition, the composers of the group took part in the formation of music education in the country - in particular, in the work of the School of Music Teachers ( tour Musiki Muallim Mektebi ), which was later transformed into the Ankara Conservatory .
