Life and work
E. Harris since 1870 studied at the Birmingham School of Art, where he worked under the direction of Charles Morgan, F. Jackson and Edward R. Taylor. Among his fellow students were Walter Langley, William John Wainwright and William Brkspeare. Harris was appointed assistant master and two years later created his own studio, where he was engaged in painting and gave lessons. In 1877, he begins to exhibit at the gallery of the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists . Then he studied in Antwerp , at the Belgian Royal Academy of Fine Arts, under Charles Verl . In 1880, Harris returned to Birmingham, and from the next, 1881 , made summer trips to sketches in Brittany , as well as to the Cornish fishing village of Newlin , in which the painter settled in 1883 . In the early 1880s, many other artists came here, including Thomas Gotch , Stanhope Forbes , Percy Kraft , Norman Garstin and others. Harris lives in Newline for 12 years, until 1895 , and then until his death in 1906 lives alternately in various places in southern England.
From 1882 to 1904, E. Harris exhibited 13 of his paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts . The artist painted mainly genre paintings and landscapes, and achieved great success in this area - however, his talent was most developed in portraiture. Canvases by E. Haris can be seen in museums and art galleries in London , Dublin , Birmingham , Manchester , Liverpool and other cities of Great Britain.
