Content

Description

Nocturnal species feed on insects. Length up to 26 cm. Body mottled, with a number of transverse dark stripes. A group of geckos with more primitive features (have moving eyelids). A couple of eggs are laid, in some species the sex is determined by the incubation temperature [3] .

Distribution

America , Asia , Africa .

Classification

In the Eublepharidae family, 30 species combined into 6 genera [4] :

  • Aeluroscalabotes - Indonesia , Malaysia , Singapore , Thailand [5]
  • Coleonyx - America
  • Eublepharis - Eublefar - Asia
  • Goniurosaurus - Asia
  • Hemitheconyx - West Africa
  • Holodactylus - Northeast Africa

Recently, molecular genetic analysis performed by Jonniaux & Kumazawa (2008) [6] confirmed morphological studies performed by Grismer (1988), [7] showing that the Eublepharidae family should be divided into two subfamilies, Aeluroscalabotinae and Eublepharinae .
