Description

In 1967, the Nikopol Plant of Construction Machines. Lenin launched a series of tower cranes S-981 ( KB-306 ) with a load moment of 100 t • s • m , and starting in 1974, its modified versions, S-981A and S-981B , were designed for the construction of buildings and structures up to 12 floors. [2] . These cranes ( C-981 ) were equipped with a lifting boom. See photo of nameplate: [1]

The KB-308 crane is issued instead of the S-981 crane at the Nikopol crane-building plant . [3] , uses the general assembly units of the C-981A crane [1] , [2] and is designed to operate in I-III wind regions at an ambient temperature of minus 40 ° C to plus 40 ° C. It is allowed to operate the crane in the IV and V wind regions, subject to the additional requirements specified in the documentation for the crane (operating instructions). [1] , [2]

Modifications

  • KB-308A - The crane is designed for the construction of residential, industrial, administrative buildings and structures with a height of up to 36 m and a mass of mounted elements up to 8 tons . [4] .
  • KB-308M - Further modification of the crane. Differs in technical characteristics. It has nine performances.
  • KNTS -981 - Jib modification of the tower crane S-981A - crane for the construction of the zero cycle. [5]

Crane with a lifting capacity of 3.2 t to 8 t with a reach of 4.5 m to 25 m . [3] .

Design Description

 

Cranes of these series consist of the following units: running frame, turntable, turret, boom, counterweight, control cabin, hook suspension , insert, mounting rack and rods. Cranes have a tower that is stacked from below by intermediate sections. [3]

Boom crane KB-308 - beam type [3] , trellised. By design, the crane tower is a trellised type, made of corners. [6]

The cargo winch of the crane has a twin-engine drive, which provides an increased speed of lifting goods weighing up to 5 tons compared to the speed of lifting goods weighing 8 tons . To control the winch, as well as other mechanisms, the crane is equipped with a special set of electrical equipment such as KBK-5 . [1] , [2]

Assembly and disassembly

Installation and dismantling stages are similar to KB-403 type cranes.

Transportation

Cranes are transported by rail, water, and by road - in accordance with the rules, standards, and requirements.

Incidents with S-981 and KB-308

According to cranewreck.ru: “Many tower cranes made in 1960 - 1990 have ring frames that do not have the necessary load-bearing capacity, which leads to their destruction during operation. Destruction of frames is the most common cause of C-981 crane accidents. The welds connecting the elements of the bottom sheet and (or) the bottom sheet with the eyes and vertical side sheets are usually destroyed. Refinement by the plant of the frame design and its strengthening during operation did not give the expected effect. After further processing, the frame was used on KB-308 cranes. To date, most of the S-981 tower cranes have been decommissioned, and operation of those remaining due to increased risk can only be allowed as an exception, with severe restrictions on the conditions of use and maintenance . ” [7]

  • July 6, 2005 in one of the districts of Astana of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the construction of a residential complex due to a strong gust of wind, a drop in the design elements of the KB-308A crane occurred. As a result of the accident, the crane driver was injured. [8]
  • On June 25, 2008, in Barnaul , during the dismantling of the KB-308 crane, a worker was put into the danger zone where sections of the dismantled crane were lowered during the construction of a residential facility controlled by the Rostekhnadzor Directorate for the Altai Territory . As a result, one person was seriously injured. [9] , [10] . Cause of accident: installer's carelessness. [9]
