Career

Club

The first club in Alexander's professional career was Celje , with whom he signed a contract in 1997. The first five seasons Sheliga appeared on the field infrequently, but since the 2001/02 season has become the main goalkeeper of the club. He played in Celo until 2005, after which he moved to one of the strongest clubs in the Czech championship - Prague Slavia , but he played in only 2 games during the season. In 2006, Sheliga returned to his native “Celje”, where he played another 3 seasons. In total, Alexander spent 190 matches in the championship as part of this team.

In the summer of 2009, 2 clubs from the Netherlands became interested in Sheliga. The first was Heerenveen , after training with which, the Slovenian did not sign the contract. The second club was Sparta Rotterdam, which, after returning to PSV, the rented Cassio Ramos, urgently needed a goalkeeper. It was with this club that Sheliga signed a 2-year contract and from the first season became the main goalkeeper of the team.

International

Since 2007, Sheliga has been called up to the Slovenian national team , but for a long time he could not make her debut in it. Only on March 3, 2010, after a successful season in Sparta, was Alexander entrusted to defend the gates of the national team in a friendly match with the Qatar team, in which he came on as a substitute and defended “to zero” [1] . In the same 2010, Matyazhe Kek included the goalkeeper in the application for the World Cup as one of the doubles of Samir Handanovich .
