Biography

Vitaliy Ivanovich Tyulenev was born on February 28, 1937 in Leningrad.

In 1949, at the age of twelve, Vitaly Tyulenev became a student of the famous Leningrad Secondary School of Art (now the Art Lyceum named after B.V. Johanson) [2] . Passion for drawing helped the future artist to take the first independent step towards choosing his own path. The training that her students then received could be envied by graduates of other art institutes and academies.

In 1956, Tyulenev graduated from the Secondary Art School and entered the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. Repin at the Faculty of Painting. He studied with Peter Fomin, Victor Oreshnikov . In 1962, he graduated from the institute in the workshop of Professor Yevsey Moiseenko . Thesis - the genre picture "The first furrow" [3] . In one issue with Vitaly Tyulenev, the institute was graduated by Valentin Vildgrube, Anatoly Ivasenko, Vladislav Levant, Yuri Pavlov, Yuri Penushkin, Oleg Tatarnikov and other talented young artists.

After graduating from the institute in 1962-1966, Vitaly Tyulenev continued his studies in the creative workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts under the guidance of Professor V. M. Oreshnikov . In 1963, he first participated in the All-Union Art Exhibition "Physical Culture and Sports in the Visual Arts", held in Moscow [4] . Since 1964, he constantly participated in exhibitions, exhibiting his works together with the works of leading masters of fine art of Leningrad. He painted landscapes, portraits, genre compositions, worked in the technique of oil painting and watercolors. Among the works of this period shown at the exhibitions are the paintings “Dawn”, “Silver Cities”, “Spring in Ostrov Village”, “Ice drift” (all 1964) [5] , “To School” (1964) [6] , “Spring Carpet” (1965) [7] , “Plotogony”, “Warm Evening”, “Showers” (all 1967) [8] and others.

After graduating from the creative workshop, Vitaly Tyulenev in 1966-1972 taught at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin , but then left his pedagogical work and devoted himself entirely to the realization of creative ideas. The main theme of his future works gradually matured from the impressions of childhood and adolescence, from his early boyish hobbies, which had already grown into mature years into an inescapable craving for communication with nature.

In the works of Vitaliy Tyulenev, traditional natural writing in the late 1960s was replaced by composed compositions populated with images from the past, from childhood and youth, and united in the plane of the picture contrary to the laws of time and space. Their selection, installation is due to the author's worldview and poetic instinct. Since 1971, a new lyrical hero appears in some of the artist’s paintings - a teenage boy, a poetic nature who is entrusted with representing the author’s position in his “travels in time” in the canvas. This technique was used in the works “Summer” (1971), “Pigeons”, “On the raft”, “Street of childhood” (all 1972) [9] , “First verses” (1973), “White night” (1974) and others .

Later, turning to eternal questions about the meaning of life, about the generational conflict and dramatic changes in the fate of the Fatherland, the artist will introduce into the fabric of the works as such a hero a conventional image of his parents, as well as a certain distant image endowed with some external resemblance to the author, such as , in Midnight (1990) [10] . In this case, the color and color proper lose their self-sufficient value, forming a kind of unsteady detached environment, a kind of picturesque equivalent of time, from which images of symbols appearing in texts and messages emerge.

Among the works of Vitaly Tyulenev, presented at major exhibitions of 1970-1990, the works of Ira (1971) [11] , Forest Lake, First Poems [12] (both 1973), and Cranes. May 1 in the village of Kosovo ”(1975) [13] ,“ Scarf from Rome ”(1975),“ Selkor ”(1976) [14] ,“ Conversation with Lenin ”(1977) [15] ,“ City for two ”, “The Northern Capital” [16] (both 1978), “Kindle Birch” (1979) [17] , “Basket with saffron mushrooms” (1980), “Antonovskaya apples” (1980) [18] , “Late Fishermen” (1980) , [19] “Birch sap” (1981), “Evening in the forestry” (1982), “Family album” (1983) [20] , “Alarm time” (1984) [21] , “Frost and the sun” (1985 ) [22] , “Winter Evening”, “Fallen Apples” [23] (both 1988), “Family Portrait” [24] , “Midnight” [25] (both 1990), “In Bright Memory of the Roman Mare” (1993) , “Autumn” [24] (1995) and others.

Vitaly Tyulenev has been a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists (until 1992 - the Leningrad Organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR) since 1964. In 1984, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR . His solo exhibitions were shown in Leningrad (1991) and St. Petersburg (1997, 2008).

The group also included Zaven Arshakuni, Valery Vatenin, Yaroslav Krestovsky, German Egoshin, Boris Shamanov, Victor Teterin, Valentina Rakhina, Evgenia Antipova, Leonid Tkachenko, Konstantin Simun, artists also supported art critic L.V. Mochalov . The exhibitions were held in the exhibition hall of the Union of Artists of Russia on Okhta. [26]
