Geography
Montreux-Fot-Yon is located at a distance of [4] about 70 km southeast of Paris , 28 km southeast of Melena . It got its name due to its geographical location near the confluence of the Yonne and Seine rivers.
History
The first people appeared at the confluence of the Yonne and Seine rivers about 6,000 years ago. The city owes its appearance to the small monastery of St. Martin, built in the VI century . The city was then divided into three parishes: St. Nicholas on the right bank of the Seine, St. Mauritius between the Seine and Yonne and St. Louis on the left bank of the Seine. The economy of the city was based on trade.
In 1026, Reinard, Count de Sens, built a castle near the confluence of the rivers in order to collect duties from merchants descending the rivers. In this way, Montro dominated.
On September 10, 1419 on the bridge in Montero, during negotiations with the Dauphin Carl , the Duke of Burgundy, Jean the Fearless , was killed. The Dauphin’s retinue attacked the nobles accompanying the duke, and Tanguy du Châtel killed Jean Fearless himself. The murder in Montero was the reason for the final transition of the bourguignons to the side of the British in the ongoing Hundred Years War .
In 1755, a faience factory was built in the city, which ceased operations in 1955 .
On February 18, 1814 under Montreux, Emperor Napoleon won one of the last victories in the war of the sixth coalition , frustrating the first Allied offensive against Paris .
In the 19th century, Montreux became a small industrial center, in addition to the faience factory, factories appeared that produced glass and chemical products.
During the Second World War, the city was bombed, bridges and many buildings were destroyed. They were restored in the early 1950s.
Population
Montroot-Fot- Yonans are called Monterelais . The canton of Montreux-Fot-Jon , which first belonged to the Fontainebleau district , was annexed to Provins in 1926.
