History
Until the mid-19th century, Kalak (another name for Mamison) was the largest village in the Mamison Gorge. So the modern name of the village is translated from Georgian as a city. Apparently such a name was given to him because of its size.
In the mid-19th century, a spontaneous process of resettlement of villagers in the foothills began. So in 1861, according to the inventories, only 9 yards remained in Kalak, in which 66 people lived.
However, by 1883, the village began to grow again and grew to 21 yards, with a total population of 154 people. And by 1901, the population of the village increased to 323 people [3] .
Due to the lack of arable land and the inaccessibility of the village, Kalak experienced several more waves of resettlement. Now in the village there is no permanent population.
