Distribution and Ecology
The species range covers the Ciscaucasia , the lower reaches of the Volga and Don . Endemic .
It grows in meadows and steppes.
Botanical Description
The bulb is ovoid, rather large, with a diameter of about 3 cm. The vagina is leathery, black-brown, elongated into a rather long, thin tube.
Leaves , including four, reed, pale green, lower blunt, wider than the others, upper sharp.
The flowers are quite large, including one - three, pale lilac or purple, tepals lanceolate or elliptical, up to 4 cm long, dull. Stamens almost half as long as tepals; anthers linear, yellow, up to 6-8 cm long; the columns are very thin, filiform, almost straight, sometimes slightly thicker at the apex, and barely bent, many times larger than the stamens.
Capsule ovate, up to 2 cm long, on a very short stalk, obtuse at the base, pointed at the apex.
It blooms in August - September. Fruits in April.
