Usage
In French, it means the same sound as È (open [ε]). It is mainly written where S: stare → estare → être (“to be”) occurred in the flow of folk romance speech; bestia → bête ("beast"); forestum → forêt (“forest”), fenestra → fenêtre (“window”).
The Vietnamese script uses Ê to denote the sound [ e ], while the letter E means the sound [ ɛ ]. If a syllable with this letter has any tone other than the first one, an additional diacritic mark is placed over it , indicating the tone , as a result of which the letter E is formed with two diacritical marks (Ếế Ềề Ệệ Ễễ Ểể).
