Career

Club

Pupil of the Lisbon Sporting School. For several seasons he played for the team’s double. He failed to break into the main squad, being, at best, the third goalkeeper and never entered the field as part of the “lions”. For the first time he began to receive game practice at the Casa Pia club, where he played one season while being on loan.

In 2004, he left Sporting. In “ Shavish ” Betu could not play and he again had to change the club. In the 2005-2006 season, the goalkeeper spent 27 matches with Marku and moved to Leixes , where Betu immediately took the place of the main goalkeeper, and the club spent several successful seasons - Leixes returned to the elite division and took a high 6 in the debut season -th place, stopping a step away from the Eurocup zone.

After spending another season at Leixion, in June 2009 Beto transferred to the Porto camp [1] . The transfer amount amounted to 750 thousand euros . During his time at Porto, Beto was replaced by Brazilian Elton [2] , mostly taking to the field in Portuguese Cup matches. On May 22, 2011 Betu took a direct part in the victory of his team over Vitoria Guimaraes in the cup final (6: 2), having beaten the penalty during the meeting with the score 2: 2 [3] .

In the summer of 2011, Beto went on loan to the Romanian CFR [4] , with whom he became the country's champion in the 2011/12 season . Upon returning from the lease, he moved to Braga [5] . Six months later, in January 2013, Betu was rented by Seville [6] . Already in March, the Spanish club bought Beta and signed a contract with him until 2015 [7] .

In the 2013/14 season, Betu played 43 matches for Sevilla and helped her win the Europa League , reflecting two hits in the penalty shoot-out in the final against Benfica [8] . Later, the Portuguese became the third goalkeeper of the team after Sergio Rico and David Soria [9] , as a result of which in the summer of 2016 left the team as a free agent.

On August 6, 2016, Beto signed a two-year contract with Sporting [10] . For his native club, he made his debut on October 13, 2016 at the age of 34 years and five months, having defended to zero in the away match of the Portuguese Cup against Famalican.

On July 31, 2017, a 35-year-old football player signed a contract with Goztepe , which made it to the Super League following the results of the 2016/17 season. Beto signed a contract for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension for another season [11] .

International

Betu made his debut in the main national team of Portugal on June 10, 2009 in a match with the Estonian team (0: 0).

Having managed to prove himself at the end of the 2009/10 season , Betu was called by the head coach of the national team Carlos Keyros for the 2010 World Cup as one of the understudies for Eduardo . In 2012, Betu was included in the application for the European Championship , where he also did not have a single match.

In 2014, Beto was again called up for the World Cup [12] . After injuring the main goalkeeper, Rui Patriciu, in a match with the German national team, Beto spent the remaining two matches of the national team in the tournament against the national teams of the USA and Ghana [13] .

Beto was also included in the team's application for the Confederations Cup 2017 [14] , where the Portuguese took third place.
