The architecture of our city

“The Architects of Our City” is a popular book series published by the publishing house Lenizdat (Leningrad) from 1971 to 1991. The books of the series were devoted to the life and work of architects who made a significant contribution to the formation of the architectural appearance of St. Petersburg over the entire period of its existence. The creativity of many architects for the first time became the object of monographic research (books about M. Zemtsov, A. Rinaldi, A. Stackenschneider, etc.) [1] . They note the great importance of this series for the revival of the "spirit of St. Petersburg" in the late Soviet era [2] .

Books of the series were published in paper cover, had a reduced format and mass circulations. Nevertheless, they quickly became a deficit, "they hunted for these thin books of small format, they got them" [3] . Revealed 28 books in this series. In 1991, the series ceased to exist "due to circumstances beyond the control of the publisher and the team of authors." A peculiar result of the series was the release in 1997 - 2000 of the three-volume "The Architectures of St. Petersburg" [4] [1] .

Since 1999, the publishing house “White and Black” (St. Petersburg) began to publish a series of “ Architects of St. Petersburg ”, designed to “fill in the gaps” in the history of architecture of St. Petersburg and dedicated to architects who were not included in previous serial publications [3] .
