Feature
The rabbit is one of the two inhabitants of the Stoacre Forest who has brains, and he states this fact in a conversation with Sova:
You and I have brains. The rest have cotton.
Original textYou and I have brains. The others have fluff.
For this very reason, Rabbit considers himself a very important resident of the Stacre Forest. He loves everything in order, organization, is always angry if someone does something wrong, as indicated by him, Rabbit. The most important thing for the Rabbit is his garden, to which he devotes the bulk of his time.
In the Soviet version, wears glasses, proves well-mannered.
Appearance
In A. A. Milne’s book “Winnie the Pooh” (1926), the Rabbit first appears in “Chapter Two, in which Winnie the Pooh went on a visit and ended up in a hopeless situation” (Chapter Two “In which Pooh goes visiting and gets into tight place ") .
It is interesting that in the seventh chapter, in which the inhabitants of the Stoacre Forest perplexedly and displeasedly perceive the “invasion” of Kanga with Kroshka Roux and try to squeeze out these alien elements from their environment, Rabbit declares that he has a “family” (family), and it’s clear what exactly are children in mind:
“Here we live ... we all are, and suddenly for no reason we wake up one morning and what do we see? We see some unfamiliar animal! An animal that we have never heard of before !! An animal that carries its children in a pocket !!! Suppose I would carry my children in my pocket, how many pockets would I need?
“Sixteen,” said Piglet.
“Seventeen, it seems ... Yes, yes,” said Rabbit, “and one more for a handkerchief,” a total of eighteen. Eighteen pockets in one suit! I would just get confused! ”
According to Maria Elifyorova, “the scene of the council for the exile of Kenga speaks of 16 or 17 children of the Rabbit, but nowhere in the“ Winnie the Pooh ”the rabbits are mentioned - nor is it said about any forms of paternal behavior on the part of the Rabbit. These children do not appear anywhere in the future. Obviously, they were inserted by Milne solely for the sake of joking about carrying children in their pockets ” [1] .
Earlier, in chapter two, the Relatives and Families of the Rabbit were mentioned, however, they are not positioned as his offspring.
