Hevel-Eilot

Hevel-Eilot ( Hebrew מועצה אזורית חבל אילות , Mo'atza Azorit Hevel Eilot ) is a regional council in the Southern Administrative District of Israel , with a population of only about 3,000. The average distance between settlements is 19.6 km. Area - 2200 km².

Geography

Hevel-Eilot is located in an arid desert region. In the winter season, the region has extremely low rainfall , and in summer temperatures periodically rise above 40 ° C above zero. Vegetation and wildlife are characteristic of the desert . Most of the territory of the regional council is occupied by Timna National Park , whose area is about 60 square kilometers. The area remote from the center of the country is not part of the general Israeli water supply system, so fresh water used for drinking and irrigation is obtained by desalinating water from the Red Sea at Mekorot desalination plants .

The territory of the Hevel-Eilot Regional Council is limited:

  • In the North : Middle Arava , Regional Council Middle Arava
  • In the south : Eilat , border with Egypt
  • In the east : border with Jordan
  • In the West : the border with Egypt , the central Negev

Population

According to statistics from the Central Statistical Bureau of Israel, the population of the regional council for 2018 is 4,100 people [1] .

Population growth is about 4.3% per year. According to the Hevel-Eilot Bureau in 2007, category 4 out of 10 was assigned in terms of socio-economic indicators of the standard of living of the population. The average wage in 2006 was 5,340 shekels a month , while the average wage in the country amounted to 7,466 shekels for that period.

There are two schools in the region .
