Zoological Society of France

The French Society of Zoologists [1] , or the Zoological Society of France ( fr. La Société zoologique de France ) is a scientific society of zoologists , as well as histologists, physiologists and other specialists of France, who study animals and popularize information about them.

History

The Zoological Society of France was founded in 1876 . The initiator of the creation of society was the French naturalist and hunter Aimé Bouvier (??? - 1919). The first founding meeting of the founding members took place on June 8, 1876. It was chaired by Jules Vian (Jules Vian, 1815-1904); Félix Pierre Jousseaume (1835-1921), Louis Bureau (1847-1936), Eugene Simon (1848-1924), Rafael Blanchard (1857-1919) and Fernand Latast (1847-1934) [2] also participated in it. The first president of the company was elected Jules Vian [2] .

The number of members of the society has changed over the years: 161 in 1878, 270 in 1889 [3] and 367 in 1897 [4] .

Five of its members were awarded the Nobel Prize : Alfons Laveran (1845-1922), Andre Lvov (1902-1994), Ilya Mechnikov (1845-1916), Thomas Morgan (1866-1945) and Charles Richet (1850-1935).

Society Awards

  • Prix ​​Gadeau de Kerville de la Société zoologique de France - a scientific award for achievements in the field of zoology in all groups of animals except arthropods (together with a prize of 20,000 francs; recently awarded once every 3 years), is named after the Honorary President of the Henri Gadeau de Kerville Society, who was a member of it for about 60 years.
