The Metropolitan Community Church or The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches is an international religious organization of a congregational nature . Founded in 1968, has about 250 communities in 23 countries of the world (mainly in the USA and Canada) [1] . This is one of the most liberal religious organizations regarding women, homosexuals and transgender people , in whose social and spiritual help they see their mission. She became a leading force in the development of queer theology [2]
Because of this position of organization, temples, ministers, and parishioners were often attacked by extremist groups (such as the Ku Klux Klan ). [3]
He has observer status in the World Council of Churches .
This organization appears in the film “ Prayers for Bobby ” (the heroine of the film addresses the church after the death of her gay son, and the pastor of this organization helps her find a tolerant attitude towards homosexuality) [4] [5] .
The founder and former head of the organization is Troy Perry. The current head is Nancy Wilson, who took over on October 29, 2005 at the Washington Cathedral .
