Mountain Caracara ( lat. Phalcoboenus ) is a genus of birds of prey of the falcon family.

Description
Body length 45–60 cm, weight 0.8–1.2 kg. The skin of the "face" is naked. The beak is weak, almost not bent. On long paws weak toes with flat claws.
They are omnivorous: they feed on insects, worms, small rodents, bird eggs and chicks, carrion, vegetables, fruits, and grain. They feed on the ground, whence the Latin name of the genus is “pedestrian falcon”. The southern mountain of Caracara , which feeds mainly on chicks and penguin eggs, was exterminated by herders for frequent attacks on lambs and survived only on remote islands.
Area
The inhabitants of the open spaces of southern South America: alpine meadows and foothills of the Andes , Patagonia , the Falkland Islands and Tierra del Fuego .
