Biography
Islam Abdullaev was born in 1876 in the city of Shusha . He studied mugham under the supervision of the musicologist Mir Mohsun Navvab , the khanenda of Haji Gusi and some other Karabakh mugam performers. He began to perform with the tarista Mirza Sadykh Asad oglu , also known as Sadykhjan.
Islam Abdullaev also worked as the director of a music school in Shusha. He played a huge role in the training of such hanenda as Khan Shushinsky , Yagub Mammadov, Sahib Shyukyurov. In Ganja, the singer organized an orchestra of folk instruments. In 1949, Islam Abdullayev was named after the Honored Artist of Azerbaijan. Toward the end of his life he moved to Agdam , where he taught the art of mugam.
The singer died in 1964 in Baku .
Creativity
Islam Abdullaev is known in the history of Azerbaijani music as a performer of mugam Segyah and his other varieties - Zabul-Segyah, Shogi Mirza Hussein, Horta Segyah, Kharij Segyah. For the amazing performance of these segahs, the singer received the nickname Segah Islam .
Islam Abdullayev was known outside of Azerbaijan. So in 1910 - 1915 . Recording companies Sport Record and Extraphone mugams Segyah, Bayat-Shiraz , Shakhnaz, Shyushter and several tesnifs performed by Islam Abdullaev were recorded on phonograph records .
