The epigraph to the poem is the words of G. R. Derzhavin from the poem “Eugene. The Life of Zvan ” [1] .
The poem is written in Boldino , in the fall . Creation History
In a letter to his wife from Boldin to Petersburg, dated October 30, 1833, the poet wrote:
You ask how I live and am I prettier? Firstly, I let go of my beard: mustache and beard - praise to the young man; I’ll go outside, they’re called Uncle . 2) I wake up at seven o'clock, drink coffee and lie down to three o’clock. Recently signed, and already wrote the abyss. At three o’clock I sit astride, at five in the bath and then dine with potatoes and sinful porridge. Until nine o'clock - I read.
