Romanov, Dmitry Alexandrovich

Dmitry Alexandrovich ( August 2 [15], 1901 , Gatchina - July 7, 1980 , London ) - Prince of imperial blood , the fourth son of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich and Grand Duchess Ksenia Alexandrovna . The grandson of Emperor Alexander III on the maternal side, and the great-grandson of Emperor Nicholas I in the direct male line.

Life Before Emigration

Prince of imperial blood Dmitry Alexandrovich was born in the Gatchina Palace. He was the fourth son and fifth child in the family of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich and Grand Duchess Ksenia Alexandrovna. In childhood, he traveled with his parents for a long time.

After the revolution, he was under house arrest along with his parents and other Romanovs on the Dyulber estate in Crimea . On April 11, 1919, he left Russia in the English battleship Marlboro, along with the other Romanovs, and then arrived in Malta, where he spent 9 months before moving to England.

In exile

He lived in exile in Great Britain and France. In the 1920s, he worked as a stockbroker in Manhattan . In the 1930s, he was briefly the manager of the Coco Chanel store in Biarritz , where he met his future first wife, Countess Marina Sergeevna Golenishcheva-Kutuzova (1912-1969), who worked as a model in the Chanel fashion house. Then he was a member of the Mladoross party and supported Prince Vladimir Kirillovich .

During World War II, he served as captain-lieutenant (Lieutenant-Commander) of the British Navy Volunteer Reserve , participated in the Dunkirk operation .

After the war, becomes secretary of the travelers club in Paris . In the 1950s, he was the sales representative in Europe of a whiskey-producing company, and also engaged in winemaking. After the creation of the “ Association of Romanov Clan Members ” in 1979, Dmitry Alexandrovich was elected June 9, 1979 as its first chairman and held this position until his death. After the second marriage with Sheila Chisholm, the couple modestly lived in the town of Belgravia, in one of the districts of London.

Marriages

Dmitry Alexandrovich was married twice. On November 25, 1931, in Paris, he married Countess Marina Sergeyevna Golenishcheva-Kutuzova (1912-1969), daughter of Count Sergey Alexandrovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov (1885-1950) and Maria Alexandrovna, nee Countess Chernysheva-Bezobrazova (1890-1960). In 1931, Kirill Vladimirovich granted her the title of Princess Romanovskaya-Kutuzova, and on 28/07/1935 to her and her offspring - the title of His Grace Princes Romanovsky-Kutuzov with the transfer of the title of lordship to an elder of its kind. The marriage was dissolved in 1947, and in 1949 Princess Marina Sergeyevna married Otto de Nefville (1898-1971), a descendant of the famous German aristocratic family.

October 29, 1954 in London, Prince Dmitry Alexandrovich entered into a second marriage with the widow of Baronet Sir John Charles Charles Milbene nee Margaret Sheila Chisholm (Chisholm; 1898-1969). He had no children from his second marriage.

Offspring

The only child from her first marriage was the daughter of Princess Nadezhda Dmitrievna (1933-2002), who married in 1952 doctor of medicine Anthony-Brown Allen (born 1931), the son of Samuel Leonardo Allen and Jane Fletcher. From this marriage three daughters were born:

  • Penelope-Judith Allen (born 27.2.1953) - married Prince Emanuel Emanuelovich Golitsyn (born 1951) in 1981, two children were born in the marriage:
    • Princess Victoria Emmanuilovna Golitsyna (b. 04.23.1985) - in 2011 she married Robert Harold Hanson (b. 1978)
    • Prince Mikhail-George Emanuelovich Golitsyn (b. 2.2.1993)
  • Marina Allen (b. 10.7.1955) - in 1974 she married Franklin Daniel Hutson (b. 1952), one son was born in marriage:
    • Ruan Hutson (born 07.31.1981) - in 2010 he married Hella Wuckener, have two children:
      • Carter Hutson (born 19.3.2008) - was born before marriage.
      • Chloe Hutson (born 2010)
  • Alexandra Allen (born December 10, 1958)

In 1976, Nadezhda Dmitrievna and Anthony Allen divorced. In May 1977, she remarried to William Thomas Hell Clark (1924-1995). She had no children from her second marriage.

According to Cyril's sources, she was titled Princess Romanovskaya-Kutuzova, according to others it was known as Nadejda Romanoff or Princess Nadeshda Romanov .

Death

Prince Dmitry Alexandrovich died on July 7, 1980 in London from cancer. Buried at Gunnersbury Cemetery in Kensington.
