Multi-Service Access Node

Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) - A multi-service access point. A device installed, as a rule, on the territory of a telephone exchange that connects telephone lines of consumers with a service network, providing telephony , ISDN and Internet access via DSL .

An advantage for a provider that uses MSAN for deployment, in contrast to traditional DSLAMs , is that there is no need to use heterogeneous equipment for subscribers to access traditional services and the Internet. Integration of all services in one device and further transportation via IP-network or ATM allows the operator to significantly save on investment in the project and provide new services to subscribers.

Traditionally, MSAN equipment consists of a group of skirtings , UPSs , traditional telephone ports, DSL modules , and optical modules.
