"The Day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus - Ukraine " ( Ukrainian "The Day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus - Ukraine ") is a state holiday of Ukraine , dedicated to the anniversary of the Baptism of Russia , which is celebrated annually on July 28 [1] [2] [3] .

Holiday Approval
The “Baptism Day of Kievan Rus - Ukraine" was established on July 25, 2008 , after the third president of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko , "... given the importance of Orthodox traditions in the history and development of Ukrainian society, in support of the initiative of the National Council for Culture and Spirituality , Ukrainian cultural Foundation, the Ukrainian Orthodox church , the Ukrainian Orthodox church Kiev Patriarchate , the Ukrainian autocephalous Orthodox church , the public ... "signed the Decree № 668/2008« On the Day of baptism of Kyivan Rus - Ukr ins ", which prescribes to celebrate this day every year, the twenty-eighth day of July," the feast day of St. Vladimir - Baptist Kievan Rus " [1] [2] .
In 2009, Viktor Yushchenko, congratulating his compatriots on “The Day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus - Ukraine,” said the following words:
“ ... we celebrate this holiday on the day of St. Vladimir - one of the founders and patrons of our statehood. For us, this day fixes and means several fundamental concepts. This is the continuity of the thousand-year history of Ukraine, our nation and state. This is the indivisibility of the Ukrainian people and their unity around the idea of a strong state and faith. This is the collegiality of all Ukrainians and all Ukrainian lands around their native state and spiritual capital - Kiev. This is the great presence of Kiev in world history and its civilizational influence on neighboring lands and peoples. This is the unity of our state and spiritual principle ... ” [4]
"The Day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus - Ukraine" is a working day if, depending on the year, does not fall on a day off.
Criticism
The prominent Ukrainian medieval historian Petr Tolochko called the design of this holiday in Ukraine an attempt to throw into the past the modern national-state nomenclature [5] to isolate and narrow the geography of events that are of fundamental and unifying significance for the entire East Slavic world.
