The Seventh Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR was held in the USSR in 1979 , the opening ceremony was held on July 21 at the Central Stadium. V.I. Lenin in Moscow . Finals were held in 30 sports.
Description
At all stages of the competition, 87 million Soviet athletes participated. Most of the finals were held in pre-Olympic Moscow. For the first time, foreign athletes were invited to participate. 8,300 Soviet athletes and over 2,000 athletes from 84 other countries participated in the finals. The first place in the number of awards took the team of the RSFSR , in the second - the team of the Ukrainian SSR , in the third - the team of Moscow .
