1923

The 1923 tournament was held according to the system, which is now called Scheveningen . However, a similar system was already tested in the early stages of the tournament in Ostend (1906).

10 Dutch chess players played with 10 representatives from other European countries (Austrian, Hungarian, Czech, German, Englishman, Dane, Swiss, Russian emigrant with a French passport and two Belgians). At the same time, the Netherlands national team did not play among themselves, and the “guests” did not play among themselves.

Dutch players played white in odd rounds, and “guests” in even ones.

The tournament brought the following results: all the places at the top of the table were taken by representatives of the “guests” team, none of the hosts scored 50% of the points.
