Biography
Born on October 16, 1920 in the village of Kadushenka (now Dubensky district, Tula region ). Russian. He graduated from 7 classes. He worked as a locksmith .
In May 1939, he was drafted into the Red Army by the Dubensky district military enlistment office. In February 1941 he graduated from the Oryol Tank School with the rank of lieutenant and was sent to the 18th Panzer Division of the 7th Mechanized Corps as a T-26 tank commander. Member of the CPSU (b) .
On the fronts of World War II from July 22, 1941. He was seriously wounded three times (March 7, 1942, January 15, 1944, and March 31, 1944 [2] ).
After the German defense broke through the rifle units of the 1st Belorussian Front , the tank company of the guard of senior lieutenant I.V. Golovin, acting in the depths of the enemy’s defense, marched over 200 km with fights on January 15 and 16, 1945. Rota participated in the liberation of the settlements of Jedlinsk , Nove Miasto , Strykuev , Zgierz , Aleksandrow , Poddejbice and was the first to enter the area northwest of the city of Lodz . For two days of continuous fighting, the company cut three railways and several highways, destroyed 20 guns, 5 tanks, 1 self-propelled guns , 1 armored personnel carriers , more than 250 trucks and more than 400 enemy soldiers and officers [2] .
On January 16, 1945, a tank company crossed the Pilitsa River on the "shoulders" of the retreating Germans [2] .
The tank unit in which Golovin I.V. served in February [3] 1945 occupied the frontier in the area of the Polish town of Nove Miasto . The tank company he commanded was assigned the crucial task of cutting off the main highway connecting Radom with Warsaw , and then, entering the enemy’s rear, crossing the Pilitsa River and clearing the Germans of Nove Miasto. To assist the tanks were assigned submachine gunners. While preparations were underway for the operation, the Germans, under cover of their tanks, began to retreat. Therefore, it was equally important, so as not to miss the moment, to take advantage of the turmoil that had risen in the camp of the enemy, to force the water line not over the water, but over the bridge, which the Germans had not yet managed to blow up. Rota came close to the crossing.
Now the first, second, third tanks of the company safely passed the bridge ... and while the Germans came to their senses, another crew managed to cross over. A fierce battle ensued. The company’s tanks remaining on this bank of the river supported the crossed tanks with assault rifles in friendly fire. Having set the signals with missiles, I. Golovin on foot moved to the advanced group of tanks and from there, adjusting with fire, gave accurate target designations.
The enemy could not stand the destructive fire of Soviet tank guns and began to roll away quickly, pursued by fire and caterpillars. On the heels of the enemy tanks broke into the city. Six hours this battle lasted. Despite the significant superiority of the enemy, the company managed to win a complete victory. By 12.00 the city was taken. A few hours later, the destroyed bridge was restored and all the company tanks were pulled into the city. And at 16.00, Senior Lieutenant Golovin was already radioing to the headquarters of the tank army: “The task has been completed. I look forward to further instructions. ” For the successful solution of this military operation, 6 people of the tank company, including Captain Golovin, were awarded a high government award - the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [4] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945, the senior lieutenant I.V. Golovin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union .
After the war, he continued to serve in the armored forces . In 1945-1948 he studied at the Higher Armored School ( Leningrad ). Then, until 1955, he served as commander of a tank company in the 9th Guards Tank Regiment (military unit 43715) in the city of Rustavi ( Transcaucasian Military District ) with the rank of Captain and Major Guard. After being transferred to the reserve, he lived and worked in Georgia for some time, and then moved to Novomoskovsk , worked as a foreman at a chemical plant .
He died on April 25, 1965, was buried in Novomoskovsk .
