Description
The body length is from 3.7–9.3 mm in Godzilliognomus frondosus to 27.5–45.1 mm in Godzillius robustus (these are, respectively, the smallest and largest representatives of the entire Remipyde class) [2] . Until 2013, the Pleomothra aplectocheles type included in this family is intermediate in size: 5.2–17.1 mm. The species Godzillius robustus is also called the largest cave crustacean [3] .
Etymology
The generic epithet Godzillius (named after the Japanese film monster Godzilla ), which gave the name to the whole family, points to the size of the adult individuals and cat-like claws on the maxilla and maxillipeda giant for representatives of the remipedia class. The name of the later open genus Godzilliognomus , on the contrary, indicates miniature size, and the genus Pleomothra is named after Mothra (+ ancient Greek πλέω - to sail, sail) - another monster from the Godzilla media franchise - to continue the “associative series” [4] .
