Geography
The city is located in the western part of Central Scotland, northwest of the Glasgow metropolis, about 10 kilometers from its center (which makes Bersden almost one of the suburbs of Glasgow). The city bears its current name since 1863 , after a railway line was drawn here and Bersden station was opened on it. The population of the city is about 28 thousand people.
History
The first settlement appeared on the site of present-day Bersden in the first half of the 2nd century , between 142 and 144 years, when the Romans, during the time of Emperor Antoninus Pius, built a new fortification of peat, stone and wood north of the previously constructed Adrian shaft - Antonin's shaft , which protected Britain from raids picts . Roman fortification was located on a military road along the southern side of the rampart.
