Partisan Glory Day ( Ukrainian: “Partisan Glory Day” ) is a military holiday that is celebrated in Ukraine annually on September 22 [1] .

The holiday appeared on the Ukrainian official calendar in 2001 after October 30, 2001, " in support of the initiative of war veterans and with the goal of nationwide celebration of the feat of partisans and underground workers during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, perpetuating their memory ", in the capital the hero-city of Kiev , the second president of Ukraine Leonid Danilovich Kuchma signed Decree No. 1020/2001 “ On the Day of Partisan Glory ”, which ordered him to be celebrated in Ukraine every year on September 22 [2] .
During the Great Patriotic War , more than six thousand partisan detachments and clandestine groups with a total number of about a million people operated in the rear of the Wehrmacht . Approximately one in five of them was awarded USSR state awards, and 223 were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
The third President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, in his congratulatory speech dedicated to the “Partisan Glory Day”, said the following words:
“The partisan movement is a mass manifestation of high patriotism, sacrifice and self-sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of people of different nationalities and worldviews, the selfless struggle of the people for their freedom, national existence. In the turbulent years of World War II, not only regular units of the Red Army fought with the enemy, but also all the freedom-loving Ukrainian people ... The front visible and invisible passed through the whole territory of Ukraine ... [3] "
Content
Celebration
On September 22, 2011, in the city of Putivl, Sumy Region, the main celebrations of the country dedicated to the Day of Partisan Glory and the 70th anniversary of the partisan movement were held. They are attended by the regional leadership and deputies of Ukraine, and a delegation from the Russian Federation.
During the solemn meeting, the governor of Sumy region Yury Chmyr addressed the veterans with words of gratitude: “I want to wish the veterans health and thank for their feat. You carry an invaluable mission - educating young people in the best traditions of devotional service to the Motherland. The main thing is that you live longer, so that youth as long as possible can learn from your wisdom, your life experience, and learn from you to love the Motherland. ”
Yuriy Chmyr also conveyed congratulations from President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych , who was unable to personally come to the Putivl region.
The Head of State’s address to veterans says: “Thanks to the heroism you displayed during the difficult times of the war, an independent and united Ukraine is now building its future. On this festive day, I sincerely thank you for everything experienced, suffered and accomplished. As the President of Ukraine, as a citizen I want to testify to you my love and deepest respect. I assure you that I will continue to do my best to improve your life. ”
On the Day of Partisan Glory, four Sumy veterans received Presidential awards: Nikolay Kabanov was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnytsky II degree, the Order "For Courage" II degree - Ivan Zhelada, Victor Kalinin, Anna Krivosheeva.
"Partisan Glory Day" is not a day off.
