Distribution

They are found in diverse conditions in the tropics of East Asia and Australasia [2] . Also represented by a large American group of species in Central America in the Caribbean.

Description

Ground pulmonary snails with medium and large sized shells (25-50 mm, less often smaller).

Genetics

In this family, the haploid number of chromosomes (n) varies from 26 to 30 [3] .

Systematics

About 90 genera [4] in 3 subfamilies: Camaeninae Pilbry, 1895 , Rhagadinae Iredale, 1938 and Sinumeloninae Solem, 1992 . The Camaenidae family is a polyphyletic taxon devoid of synapomorphies . American species stand closer to the families Helicidae and Helminthoglyptidae , while species from Australasia form a group sister to the family Bradybaenidae [5] .
