Dyman expedition - a punitive expedition sent in 1908 to Persia to punish the Shahseven tribe for attacks on Russian border posts and villages.
The Türkic-Tatar Shahseven tribe lived in the north-eastern corner of the Persian province of Aderbeidzhan, bordering with the Lankaran district of Baku province . After the accession of a significant part of the Mugan steppe under the Turkmanchay Treaty to Russia , the Shahsevens were given the right to migrate to Russian borders in winter. But the constant border troubles and robbery forced the Russian government in 1884 to ban these migrations. The robberies of the Shahseven in the Russian border zone did not stop and especially intensified since 1905 , in view of the beginning of the revolutionary movement in Persia ; at the same time, one of the most powerful leaders of the Shahseven tribes, Mamed-Kuli Khan Alarsky, seized a section of Russian territory near the Dyman border guard post and built the village of Tazekala there. In addition, the people of Khan Alarsky constantly raided the Russian villages of the Pershambels society, drove cattle, and even decided to openly attack border guard posts.
On March 30, 1908 , during the clash between the post and the Shahsevens of Khan Alarsky at the Belyasuvar customs, the captain Dvoeglazov and 3 lower ranks were killed and 4 lower ranks were wounded. In view of the complete impotence of the Persian administration to stop the robberies, punish the perpetrators and force Mammad-Kuli Khan Alarsky to clear the captured Russian territory, on April 10, 1908 a punitive detachment was sent from Tiflis consisting of 2 rifle battalions , a platoon of mountain artillery and 1 hundred Cossacks, under the command of the General Major Snarsky . Upon the arrival of the detachment at the Dyman post, the inhabitants of the village of Tase-kala retired to Persia. The village was destroyed; 4 border villages in Persian territory were destroyed, whose inhabitants robbed in Russian territory. The Shahsevens were requested to punish the killers of the border guards, to pay monetary rewards for the military expedition and in favor of the families of the killed guards, to return the stolen cattle to the Russian citizens and other things.
On June 1, 1908, Snarsky’s detachment was recalled from the borders of Persia , in view of the fulfillment by the due date of part of the submitted requirements and data by Mamed-Kuli Khan and other leaders of the obligation to fulfill other requirements and stop raids into Russian borders.
