Siberian barberry ( Latin: Bérberis sibírica ) is a shrub , a species of the genus Barberry ( Berberis ) of the family Barberry ( Berberidaceae ).

Dissemination and ecology
In nature , the species range covers Altai , Sayans , Dzungarian Alatau and Mongolia . Described from Altai.
It grows on rocks, rocky and desert slopes and placers, mainly in low mountain areas, less often in the alpine region.
Botanical description
Shrub up to 1 m high, highly branched. Shoots are gray or brownish; shortened with leaves, close.
The leaves are leathery, oblong-ovate, not more than 2 cm long, 8 mm wide, awl-dentate, narrowed downward, pointed at the apex, usually located almost parallel to the shoot. Leaves of shoots on the edge of the prickly-toothed. Spines 3–5–7- (11) -separated, up to 14 mm long, usually exceeding the leaves.
The flowers are yellow, single, with a diameter of 1-2 cm, on pedicels less than 1 cm long. Sepals are ovate, obtuse; petals are equal to them and of the same shape, but notched at the apex. Stamens are twice as short as petals.
The berries are red, broadly oval, up to 9 mm long.
It blooms in May - June. Fruits in September.
Economic value and application
Thickly leafy shrub, which is used in borders. Interesting in its dense leaves.
A yellow dye is obtained from the bark and roots to color the skin. Leaves and fruits are prepared for seasonings and tinctures.
The roots of Siberian barberry are considered a very important folk remedy in Transbaikalia , where they are used for colds as a strong diaphoretic; in addition, they give it to horses for "milking". Bark and fruits, which contain about 0.15% ascorbic acid , are also used in Tibetan medicine [2] .
