Story
Deep under the ground was a powerful ancient crystal that supports the balance of good and evil. But once, from somewhere from space to Earth, a crystal of evil fell and, destroying its predecessor, began to infect with aggression all life on the planet. However, before the original crystal was destroyed, he managed to transfer the remnants of his forces to the little hummingbird bird, which now has to restore order in the world.
Gameplay
The game is an atypical two-dimensional Shoot 'em up with puzzle elements. Management is carried out on behalf of a hummingbird , at war with the enemies corresponding to its size - wasps, beetles, caterpillars, etc. The game locations are designed to match the game - flowering fields, forests, caves. You can move through the locations in all directions. Total game is divided into 20 levels [3] , for the passage of which it is necessary to complete the task, for example, to destroy all enemies or fly to a certain place.
In addition to the usual enemies that can be destroyed, there are larger opponents in the game - frogs and chameleons, which you just have to fly around to avoid being eaten. To counter the usual enemies in the game there is a whole set of weapons that can be used by hummingbirds - homing laser beams, projectiles exploding in the air and deadly waves. When confronted with an enemy or when shots of enemy weapons hit a bird, the level of health decreases, and to restore it, it is necessary to feed on nectar from flowers. Frogs and chameleons immediately take away the life of a hummingbird, which in principle is not a particular problem, since the number of lives in the game is not limited.
Criticism
In general, the game received quite good ratings. Many reviewers spoke positively about the graphic design and unusual concept of Kolibri. The average score of the game according to the website MobyGames is 68 points out of 100 [2] .
Reviews
- The British gaming magazine GameFan in the November 1995 issue put the game 86 points out of 100 possible, calling Kolibri the best shooter and one of the three best games on the Sega 32X. The graphic design of the game was particularly appreciated [4] .
- The English-language website Defunct Games rated Kolibri at 83%. According to the site, on Sega 32X Kolibri is almost the only worthwhile game, next to which the rest of the games look miserable. The disadvantages of the game were called its insufficiently high complexity and some slowness of the gameplay. As in many other reviews, the graphics of the game were called fantastic [5] .
- The commercial information database of computer games Allgame delivered in 1998 the adventures of a brave bird 3.5 stars out of 5, including: 5 stars for graphics, 4 for sound and gameplay and 3.5 stars for repetition factor . Nature has never looked so good - the review says [6] .
- On the game Sega-prefix dedicated to the Sega-16.com games, the game received a score of 7/10. The music and sound of the game were subjected to criticism, the low quality of which, in the opinion of the reviewer, is connected, however, primarily with the bad Sega 32X sound processor. Graphic design was named the best of the two-dimensional games of this console. In addition, Sega-16.com commends the design of the characters of the game - insects, birds and reptiles. [7]
- Another English-language website, Digital Press , gave the game 6 points out of 10. The maximum 10 points were assigned to the graphics, 9 points to music and sound, and 6 points to the gameplay. The only thing that, in the opinion of the reviewer, saved the game from total failure was the remarkable graphics and the extremely unusual concept [8] .
- On the popular game portal GameFAQs, the game was rated 6.8 / 10 according to reviewers and 8.8 / 10 according to visitors of the portal [9] .
