History
The line was first opened on October 12, 1913 as a section connecting the Wittenbergplatz and Tilplatz stations. This site was built on the initiative of the suburbs of Berlin (currently - Wilmersdorf). Initially, construction was planned before the Ferbelliner Platz station, but the government of the state land of Dahl decided to extend the line to improve the transport infrastructure of the region.
The direction of train movement from the southwestern terminal station “ Krumme Lanke ” of the line has repeatedly changed. At first, this section was part of line A, connecting Krumme Lanka in the southwest and Pankov station in the north, which was shown in red on the diagrams. Since 1957, the line has had a fork with directions to the Pankov and Warschauer Strasse stations. After the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, traffic was changed, the line was numbered 2 and from 1972 it was shortened to the Wittenbergplatz station. In 1993, the line received U1 number and was extended to the Warschauer Strasse station. In its present form, the line has been operating since December 2004 .

Perspectives
There are plans to connect the U3 line to the Mexikoplatz electric train station ( German: Mexikoplatz ) of the S1 line in the south-west. This is the most likely expansion of the Berlin Underground, which can be carried out if the financial situation of the city improves.
