Biography
He was born on December 1, 1942 in the family of the Lutheran priest of the cathedral Oscar Paarm (1905-1994) and the music teacher Kaisa Engblum. He graduated in 1961 at the Tampere school. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Helsinki with a bachelor's degree in theology . In 1970 he defended a licentiate , and in 1980 received a doctorate in theology . On June 1, 1967, in Tampere, he was ordained as a Lutheran pastor.
His further career in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland was as follows:
- 1967 - 1968 - Assistant Senior Pastor in the Lahti and Central Finland Region
- 1968 - 1971 - official clergy assistant
- 1972 - 1977 - Chaplain
- 1977 - 1982 - rector of the parish in Valkeakoski
- 1982 - 1998 - abbot of the cathedral in Turku .
On December 1, 1998, he was elected primate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland with the title of Archbishop of Turku . June 6, 2010 resigned. [one]
Married Wife Associate Pirjo Paarma. Have two daughters - Hannah and Laura. His hobbies are books, history and sports (sports at a very young age was a strong passion for which the archbishop once said that if he had not become a priest, he would have received a specialty related to sports. [2]
