Family Composition
The family includes two monotypic genera of modern plants [2] :
- Tetracentron Oliv. (1889) - Tetracentron . The only modern look, Tetracentron sinense , is found in China and Nepal . These are deciduous trees up to 30 meters high and up to 1 meter in diameter.
- Trochodendron Siebold & Zucc. (1839) typus - Trochodendron . The only modern species known, Trochodendron aralioides Eichler , is a tree with a height of 5 to 25 meters that is found in the wild in Japan , as well as on the Korean Peninsula and Taiwan ; as an ornamental plant, trochodendron is cultivated around the world. Several fossil species of this genus have also been described (fossils with imprints of parts of trochodendron were found in Japan, Kamchatka, and western North America ).
In the classification systems APG I (1998) and APG II (2003), the Trochodendraceae family was considered monotypic, and the genus Tetracentron was allocated to the independent Tetracentric family - Tetracentraceae ACSm. (1945) , nom. cons. . In the more modern system APG III (2009), these two genera were combined into a single family, which was separated into a separate Trochodendrales order [3] . In the classification systems APG I and APG II, the families Trochodendraceae and Tetracentraceae belonged to the informal group eudicots , but were not included in any order.
Two extinct genera also belong to this family:
- β Nordenskioldia
- β Zizyphoides
Synonyms
The synonymy of the Trochodendrales order includes the following names [2] :
- Trochodendrineae Engl.
- Trochodendranae reveal
