February 7, 1958 in the Soviet Union , which included the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR " On the establishment of the Day of Soviet Youth " was established " Day of Soviet Youth ", which was celebrated on the last Sunday of June . On this day the story of “Youth Day” began [2] [3] .

On March 26, 1998, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 157 “ On Public Holidays, Public Holidays, and Memorable Dates in the Republic of Belarus, ” which ordered the celebration of “Youth Day” in Belarus annually on the last Sunday of June.

On this day, various celebrations and events are held throughout Belarus. Traditionally, congratulations to young people are sent by officials of the highest ranks, up to the president. So, for example, in 2009 , Alexander Lukashenko in his congratulatory speech said the following:

“ Dear boys and girls! I heartily congratulate you on one of the brightest holidays - Youth Day. It is up to you, today's schoolchildren, students, young specialists, to decide what tomorrow will be in our country. It is important that you take an active life position, are able to defend your principles and views. The youth of Belarus confidently declares itself at international scientific conferences, olympiads, creative contests. Your knowledge, talent, energy inspire the Belarusian people, and the name of the republic sounds in a new way in world science, sports, art. Focus on getting an education, a serious attitude to the profession, love for your native land are the basis of your success. The mass youth public associations created by us - the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization - allow adolescents and young people to express themselves, realize their dreams, gain experience in leadership and teamwork. Look ahead bolder, dare, create, love ... [4] "

Together with the young citizens of Belarus, the youth of Ukraine celebrates their holiday .

In the Russian Federation, after the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, “ Youth Day ” was moved by the President of Russia Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin to June 27 , although in some cities, the main festivities are held “the old way” on the last Sunday of June, simultaneously with the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine.
