Power turbine (ST) - a gas turbine connected to the crankshaft of the engine. In a turbocompound TKD internal combustion engine, power is generated not only in ICE cylinders, but also in a power turbine.
Mechanical connection of a power gas turbine can be carried out by means of a belt drive , hydraulic transmission, using electric machines .
Power turbine application schemes in turbocompound engines:
- - serial connection (ST) behind the turbocharger turbine (TCR)
- - serial connection (ST) in front of the turbine of the turbocompressor (TCR)
- - TKR turbine is also a power turbine
- - parallel connection of a power turbine and a TKR turbine
- - ICE with pre-release (a) or with a purge valve (b)
- - ICE with a power turbine
- - differential boost
- - gas ICE
The performance of a diesel engine is greatly influenced by the choice of the size of the power turbine. With an increase in size, the rotor speed of the power turbine decreases, the maximum efficiency of the power turbine increases, and the fuel efficiency of the power plant as a whole improves.
The use of a power turbine ( turbocompounding ) allows you to more fully use the energy of the exhaust gases, increase the strength, reliability and durability of the cylinder-piston group, as well as reduce the specific effective fuel consumption.
