After demobilization in September 1945, Nenartovich returned to study at the Leningrad Art and Pedagogical College , which he graduated in 1949. In 1947, he married N.P. Steinmiller, a graduate of the LIZA named after I.E. Repin (workshop of M.P. Bobyshev), a talented painter and theater artist.

In 1950 he entered the first year of painting at the Faculty of Painting of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin . He studied with Leonid Khudyakov, Vasily Sokolov , Alexander Zaitsev .

In 1956 he graduated from the institute in the workshop of Professor Boris Johanson with the title of artist of painting in one issue with Gulya Lenina, Engels Kozlov , Yaroslav Krestovsky , Peter Nazarov , Nikolai Pozdneeev , Vsevolod Petrov-Maslakov, Leonid Fokin and other young artists. He worked in the technique of oil and tempera painting. In 1956 he was admitted to the Leningrad Union of Artists . Anatoly Akimovich Nenartovich died on January 1, 1988 in Leningrad in the seventy-third year of his life. His works are in museums and private collections in Russia, Britain, Germany, France, USA [3] and other countries.

Creativity

The creative fate, and then the fate of the artistic heritage of Anatoly Nenartovich, has developed in many ways dramatically. Already in the diploma painting, Nenartovich showed himself to be a thoughtful mature master, able to successfully solve the problems facing the artist when creating works in the genre of thematic multi-figure composition. It is no accident that he paid special attention to this genre in paintings and numerous field studies of the 1950s - the first half of the 1960s.

Nenartovich found his theme early, it became urban scenes with street repair and construction work unfolding in Leningrad from the second half of the 1950s. The city was transformed: gas came to replace kerosene stoves and stoves, and central heating replaced firewood. Gas pipelines and heating mains were laid along the streets, and then new asphalt pavement was laid. In this dynamic of life, the artist felt not only the pulse of time, but also found the richest pictorial material for his works.

His first works in the genre of urban studies date back to the late 1940s. An example is the work “Winter parking of ships on the Neva” [4] , “Winter at the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge” (both 1949). In the second half of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, he wrote numerous sketches and paintings in this genre, including “Asphalting the Street” (1956), “On the Construction of a Hydroelectric Power Station” , “Laying a Heating Route” (both 1957), “Laying heating plants ” [5] , “ Leningraders builders ” , “ Leningradskaya street ” , “ Construction works ” (all 1958), “ Asphalters ” , “ Laying asphalt ” , “ Asphalting the street ” , “ Laying the gas pipeline ” , “ Asphalting the street ” (all 1959), Zavod [6] (1960), Road builders [7] (1961), Birch trees , Sunny [8] (1963), Asphalts [9] [10] (1961), “Asphalters” , "New District" , "Yachts" , "On the Outskirts" [11] (all 1964) and others.

A. Nenartovich’s picturesque manner is characterized by decorativeness and the constructive role of a color spot. The color of the work is bright, rich, built on sonorous black and white contrasts and exquisite color relationships. The letter is wide, energetic, distinguished by a masterly transmission of an open-air and artistry of execution.

In 1964, A. Nenartovich showed the painting “Asphalters” at the zonal exhibition, for which he was subjected to unexpected and unfair criticism. The artist painted on a canvas a group of road workers: women asphalters and their foreman. Disregarding the veracity and artistic merits of the painting, the author was reproached for the poetization and propaganda of the use of women in hard physical work by art means. Deeply affected by unfair criticism, the artist destroyed part of his work. Only in the early 1990s, after the death of A. Nenartovich, did the etudes of this series that survived in the workshop rediscover this page for the audience and specialists of this artist. Particular success fell on the small work of the Asphalter (1961), repeatedly shown at exhibitions and reproduced in print. In it, the artist created picturesque means of an unusually expressive and truthful image of the era, understandable and recognizable. As a confirmation in 2018, NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction, USA) [12] selected this work of A. Nenartovich for posting on the poster of his annual conference. [13]

After 1965, A. Nenartovich rarely participated in exhibitions, a decorative still life and, more rarely, landscape, which he now writes mainly from memory, predominate in his work. Among his works are Leo Tolstoy Square [14] (1973), Still Life on Red Cloth [15] (1979), Still Life with a Cup [16] (1980), Still Life with a Watermelon [17] (1981) ) other.

The fate of the work of A. Nenartovich and his wife N. Steinmiller, which were stored in the studio after their death, turned out to be tragic. In 1993, there was a severe fire, as a result of which all those who were in the workshop died, including the diploma painting by A. A. Nenartovich “1905. At the Semyannikovsky plant ”, which he had taken shortly before his death for the author’s restoration.
