The Kanevsky natural reserve ( Ukrainian. Kanivsky natural reserve ) is a nature reserve located in the central part of the Kanevsky district ( Cherkasy region , Ukraine ). Created - July 30, 1923 . The area - 2027 hectares (water surface - 5%).

History
It was created according to the decision of the Board of the People's Commissariat of the Ukrainian SSR on July 30, 1923 . In the period 1951-1968, he had the status of educational and research forestry of the KNU. Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR on November 12, 1968 . Number 568 he was returned to the status of the reserve. Order of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR of December 22, 1986 No. 717-p. The reserve area was increased to 2027 hectares.
Description
Main functions: protection of standard and unique natural forest-steppe complexes, biodiversity conservation, observation of changes in natural processes. The reserve consists of two parts of the mainland (the arches and hills covered with forest - on the right bank of the Dnieper ) and the island (the flood islands - Kruglik and Shelest , Snake Islands - on the Kanevsky reservoir ). Mainland of 1415 hectares, insular 602 hectares, water area 10 hectares; around the reserve there is a security zone of 1353 hectares.
Flora and fauna
The flora of the reserve includes 990 species of vascular plants (20% of the flora of Ukraine). Found 170 species of lichens, 138 - mossy, 1232 - these mushrooms. In the reserve grows 5 species of plants listed in the European Red List, 29 - the Red Book of Ukraine, 175 - Supplement of the 1st Bern Conference.
On the territory of the reserve there are 26 species of animals listed in the European Red List, 83 - the Red Book of Ukraine, 6 - Supplement of the 1st Bern Conference.
