1999-2003

On April 9, 1999, O'Gara made his debut with Ireland’s second rugby team, known as the “ Ireland Wolfhounds”, in a match against Italy’s second rugby team [53] . He was on the expanded list of the Irish national team for participation in the 1999 Rugby World Cup , but did not make it to the final application, as the coaching staff decided to take an additional pillar instead of the third wandering midfielder. In preparation for the World Cup, O'Gara played for Munster against the national team of Ireland - this game ended in defeat for the “guys in green” with a score of 19:26 [54] .

On February 19, 2000, Ronan O'Gar made his debut in the ranks of the national team of Ireland, which fell on the match of the Six Nations Cup against Scotland [55] . In the fall of 2002, the Irish national team at Lansdowne Road beat Australia with a score of 18: 9 in a test match in which O'Gar brought all points to the Irish [56] . He rode in the national team for the 2003 World Cup [57] , having played all four group stage matches there against the teams of Romania , Namibia , Argentina and Australia, as well as the quarterfinal match against France , which the Irish lost. In total, O'Gar scored 30 points for this tournament [58] .

2004-2007

On November 13, 2004, O'Gara again won the Irish national team, gaining all of its 17 points in a match against South Africa at Lansdowne Road (the springbox scored only 12 points) [59] . On November 27, in a match against Argentina, his drop goal brought the Irish another victory [60] . In both meetings, Ronan was awarded the prize for the best player in the match. In 2004, he was awarded the title of Best Athlete of the Year from the RTÉ Broadcasting Company [61] . In 2006, O'Gara broke David Humphries' record for the number of points scored in matches for the national team and won the Triple Crown in the Six Nations Cup [62] .

On February 11, 2007, O'Gara made his first attempt for the national team in a match at Croke Park against France in the Six Nations Cup , but the Irish eventually lost to the French [63] . On March 10, in the same Cup in the match against Scotland, O'Gar scored all the points of the national team and pulled out a common victory with a final score of 19:18 at Murrayfield . On August 24, in preparation for the World Cup, in Belfast, at the Ravenhill stadium in the match against Italy , the score was 16:20 in favor of the rivals, as a result of the fight, he broke out to the Italians' test zone after the transfer from Andrew Trimble and made an attempt. The Italians appealed to the judge, claiming that the attempt was not made according to the rules, since O'Gara did not fix the ball and helped himself with his foot (although at that moment the ball also hit the Italian's leg). However, after a series of video repetitions, none of which gave an obvious answer to the question about a possible violation of the rules, Judge Derek Bevan decided to count the attempt, which caused the Italians to be indignant. Implementation of the attempt established a final score of 23:20 in favor of Ireland [64] , and out of 23 points of the Irish, Ronan scored 18 in this match [65] . At the Rugby World Cup in France, O'Gara, who arrived there with the Irish national team [66] , spent four group stage matches against Namibia, Georgia , France and Argentina, gaining 19 points [67] . However, Ireland did not leave the group, and the French media constantly published rumors that the player had his wedding broken or that he was in debt due to gambling (O'Gara constantly denied these, as he said, “disgusting” rumors) [ 68] .

2008—2011

Irish celebrate 2009 Grand Slam won, Ronan O'Gara wearing a red T-shirt

On March 11, 2008, O'Gara was for the first time in his career appointed captain of the national team and led the team to the Six Nations Cup match against England at Twickenham Stadium [69] .

In the Six Nations Cup of 2009, O'Gara made several achievements at once. On March 14, after a match against Scotland, he broke Johnny Wilkinson 's record for the number of points scored in the tournament [70] , and on March 20 in the match against Wales he scored a drop goal in the 78th minute, which the team brought, in addition to winning the Cup, A large helmet , which has not happened for 61 years [71] [72] . In November of the same year, Ronan participated in a test match against Australia, gaining 10 points, and missed the remaining two matches against Fiji and South Africa, giving Jonathan Sexton a place in the starting lineup [73] [74] .

O'Gara again played in a fly-haw position at the 2010 Six Nations Cup matches against France and Italy [75] [76] , while showing a one-hundred percent result of realizations, but he did not play in the other three matches. In the summer, he was included in the application for the Irish national team on a tour of New Zealand and Australia: in the match against All Black, he made three attempts, and spent the match against Wallabis on the bench. The first fall test match against South Africa became the hundredth for Ronan in the national team - he became the third player in the “green guys” to reach 100 games [77] . In addition, he played against Samoa teams (in the starting lineup, scored 15 points in the game, including having scored one attempt), New Zealand and Argentina (replaced in both meetings) [78] [79] .

In 2011, O'Gara played in the Cup of Six Nations in all five meetings, leaving in the starting lineup against Scotland and Wales (in the game with the Scots he received the prize of the best player [80] , and in the meeting with the Welshmen he reached the mark of 1000 points in games for national team) [81] and replacing the games against Italy, France and England. Ireland, defeating England with a score of 24: 8, did not allow the British to win the Grand Slam [82] . In the same year, O'Gara was included in the application for the World Cup in New Zealand , having played all four matches of the group stage against the teams of the USA (substitution), Australia (substitution), Russia (starting lineup) and Italy (starting lineup ) Having scored a penalty and spent six realizations in the match with the Russians, Ronan O'Gara became the champion among the players of the Irish national team in the number of points scored in the World Cups [83] ; in the match with Italy, he went instead of Jonathan Sexton and scored 16 points (the final victory of Ireland 36: 6) [84] . In the quarterfinal against Wales, O'Gar scored a penalty and scored, but Ireland lost 10:22 [85] . After defeating the Australians with a score of 15: 6, won on September 17, O'Gara in an interview with reporters announced a possible departure from the team after the World Cup [86] , but later said that his words were misinterpreted [87] .

2012—2013

The Six Nations Cup 2012 allowed Ronan O'Gar to catch Brian O'Driscoll in the number of games for the national team (117th match) [88] : it happened on February 5 in the opening match against Wales. At the same time, O'Gara also became the champion in the number of games held in the history of the Nations Cup, breaking the record for the Irish Mike Gibson with 56 games. O'Gara surpassed O'Driscoll in the number of games for the national team on February 25 in a meeting with Italy. In all matches he came on as a substitute, and said about the tournament that he “turned the guts” [89] . During the 2012 New Zealand tour, O'Gar replaced all three meetings of the team [90] [91] [92] , and on November 10, 2012 held his 125th meeting for the Irish team (match against South Africa, in which he went to replacement) [93] [94] .

The last tournament in the career of Ronan O'Gar for the Irish national team was the Six Nations Cup 2013 [95] . On February 10, he replaced the match with England [96] , and in the game against Scotland he replaced, giving way to fly-haw and number 10 to Paddy Jackson due to Jonathan Sexton's injury. This was O'Gar’s last match for the national team [97] , as he didn’t get into applications for games with France [98] and Italy. In his absence, Ireland lost to Italy at 15:22, having for the first time been defeated by Italians in the Six Nations Cup [99] [100] . Ronan O'Gar's statement on the end of his playing career on May 18, 2013 drew a line under his appearances for the Irish national team [51] .

British and Irish Lions

2001

Ronan O'Gara was called up for the British and Irish Lions British team before her tour of Australia in 2001 and played a total of four matches against West Australia [101] , Uarataz Club [102] , and New South Wales [103] and the Brambiz Club [104] , scoring 26 points for these games. O'Gara was also on standby for the match against Australia's second national team [105] . In a match against Uarataz, Ronan O'Gara received eleven blows to the head from Duncan MacRae as a result of which the Irishman had to put eight stitches on the area around the eye, and Mackray was suspended for seven weeks [106] . After the game, the “lions” coach Graham Henry called the match “a bad day for rugby” [107] .

2005

The second series of performances by O'Gar for “Lions” dates from 2005, when they toured New Zealand [108] . He spent 6 matches against the provinces of the Bay of Plenty [109] , Otago [110] , Southland [111] , Manavatu [112] and Auckland [113] and the Maori national team [114] . Officially, the first test match O'Gar was against the national team of New Zealand, and this was the third match of the “Lions”: in it the Irish came on as a substitute, but did not save his team from defeat [115] .

2009

April 21, 2009 O'Gara was included in the application "Lions" on a tour of South Africa [116] . On May 30, in the opening match against the Royal team, which ended with the victory of the British-Irish national team with a score of 37:25, he scored 22 points [117] . On June 10, O'Gara played against the Sharks club, participating in the Curry Cup , and scored 12 points in the match, which ended with the victory of the Lions - 39: 3 [118] . On June 16, in another match, the Southern Kings club was defeated with a score of 20: 8 [119] , and on June 23, O'Gara led the team out as a captain for the match with the second team of South Africa, known as Emerging Springbox [120] . On June 27, in the second test match against the South African team, O'Gara replaced his second official test match for Lviv, but with an equal score in the 79th minute he brought a penalty kick into his team’s gate, crashing into Fury du Preses . The penalty was realized by Morne Stein and brought the South African national team victory in the series [121] . In only 5 games for “Lviv” in 2009, Ronan O'Gara scored 49 points.

Player Ending

Ronan O'Gara officially announced the end of his playing career on May 18, 2013. After the Clermont Auvergne defeated Manster in the Heineken Cup for several weeks, rumors circulated in the press that O'Gara could indeed make such a decision [51] . He officially commented on this as follows:

I intend to train high-level teams in the future, and in the light of these plans, I confirm that in July I will join the coaching staff of the Racing Metro club. I trust my inner voice, which tells me that it is time to stop. Did I make this decision before the defeat in Montpellier last month? In a sense, yes. My guys are gone. My boys left the team [122] .

Original text
I have ambitions in the years ahead to coach at a high level and, with this in mind, I can confirm now that I will be joining Racing Métro's coaching staff in July. I am trusting my instinct and it is telling me now is the appropriate time to stop. Had I already decided to retire before the loss in Montpellier last month? I kind of knew. My lads are gone. My boys in the team are gone.

Club Executive Director Garrett Fitzgerald wished Ronan all the best and acknowledged that O'Gara made a huge contribution to the Munster Club and all Irish rugby over the years of his career [123] . In May 2016, the name of Ronan O'Gar was included in the Irish Rugby Union Players Association Hall of Fame [124] .

Coaching career

Rejecting the next game contract for one year from Manster, O'Gara entered the coaching staff of the French club Racing Metro 92 [51] [125] , taking over as a defender coach in July 2013 [126] . In 2016, he extended the contract until 2019 [127] . Among his charges was Jonathan Sexton, a former rival to the national team for the fly-hawah [128] [129] , who considered it an honor to work under the leadership of O'Gar [130] .

In June 2017, for exactly one meeting, Ronan O'Gara entered the coaching staff of the Irish national team, who conducted a test match against the United States , taking the post of a trainer for skills development [131] [132] . In November 2017, he left Racing ahead of schedule and moved to the New Zealand club Crusaders [133] . On January 1, 2018, O'Gara became an assistant coach of defenders, and in June extended the contract for the next Super Rugby season [134] .

Awards and Achievements

Ronan O'Gara holds 9 trophies as part of the Munster club and 6 trophies as part of the Ireland national team [135] . On September 12, 2018, his name was listed on the World Rugby Hall of Fame [136] .
