History

Share in 100 rubles. Partnerships of the engineering plant "Phoenix" with a fixed capital of 1.2 million rubles. St. Petersburg, 1910 [1]

The plant was founded in 1868 by J. Murged ( it was located on Vasilyevsky Island until 1878 ), in 1886 passed to his sons, who formed the Partnership of the Phoenix Engineering Plant. In the 1860s and 80s the plant made repairs of industrial equipment, produced machine parts for textile, paper and sugar factories, later assembled imported machines and machine tools, then set up its own production of steam engines, cranes, cutting presses, metalworking machines, and in 1914-17 it produced ammunition.

In 1919, the plant was nationalized, in 1922 it was named after Y. M. Sverdlov , during the Civil War it was mothballed. After 1925, the production of machines of previously developed types was resumed and the development of new ones began.

The Leningrad Iron Foundry "Centrolit", created in 1932 and in September 1944 renamed the Leningrad State Union Plant "Lenstankolit", was merged with the Sverdlov plant on May 7, 1959 [2] .

Many machines created at the plant were transferred for mass production to other enterprises. In the autumn and winter of 1941, the plant produced shells, then production was discontinued until 1944 . In the postwar years, the production of metal-cutting machines of their own designs was established (horizontal boring, coordinate boring, copy-milling, such as the "processing center", etc.). In 1962, the Machine Tool Association was established on the basis of the plant.

In 2003, bankruptcy proceedings were instituted against the enterprise [3]

In 2005, the Phoenix business center was opened in the administrative building of the bankrupt plant [4]
