Ernz-Noir [1] ( Luxembourg Schwaarz Iernz , French Ernz noire , German Schwarze Ernz ) - a river in the Grevenmacher district of Luxembourg [2] , a tributary of the Sauer ( Rhine basin). It flows through the cantons of Echternach and Grevenmacher .

Etymology
Literally, the name Ernz-Noir is translated as Black Ernz . Not far away, in the Reisdorf region, the Ernz-Blanch River (White Ernz) flows. The first mention of Ernets is found in the act (876-77) of the 13th century, as the Arantia River. This hydronym comes from the Old High German female root "ara" ( merger, influx ) with the addition of the suffix - nt . Root. “Ara” forms a number of river names, for example, the Are river in Switzerland [3] . The original name of Arenza or Arinza gradually transformed in the language and by the end of the 11th century took shape as Erinza.
Physico-geographical characteristics
The length of the river is 21 km. The catchment area is more than 70 km² [4] .
Ernz Noir originates in the Grunewald forest, at the confluence of two small rivers in and flows parallel to the western Ernz Blanche . It flows in a northeast direction through the settlements of Junglinster , Blumenthal and Müllerthal [5] . The coast of Junglinster is reserved for agriculture, and a wooded-rocky zone begins from the city of . These places are attractive for tourists because of their natural beauty and the main attraction of Luxembourg Switzerland is the Schissentumpel waterfall ( Luxembourg Schéissendëmpel ) near Mullertal. It flows into the Sauer in the vicinity of the village of Grundhof .
Several tributaries flow into the river, including Halerbach, Konstreferbach, Reutzbach.
The average temperature of the river is +8 ° C, in June the warmest is +17 ° C, the lowest −4 ° C is observed in January [6] .
Fauna
In the waters of Ernz Noire, there are trout species , common sculpin , comb triton , fire salamander [5] .
