History
The construction of this facility was first discussed in the late 30s. But the implementation of the plans was prevented by the war. In the early 1950s, a site was designated for the stadium - an area of about 10 hectares between Udmurtskaya, Sovetskaya and Krasnogeroyskaya streets, not far from the Zenit stadium operating since the beginning of the 30s. In 1952, the Committee for the Promotion of the Construction of Stadiums published a number of materials in the republican press aimed at persuading public opinion in favor of building the facility. It was not so simple. A lot of opponents were found at the construction site - the stadium was supposed to appear on the site of the old city cemetery. A powerful obstacle was another factor, the presence of which was hushed up in those years - Izhevsk, as the center of the defense industry, was a city closed to outsiders. It was not necessary to hope that large-scale competitions would begin at the Izhevsk stadium with the arrival of guests from at least the republics of the USSR, not to mention other countries. And for city competitions, a large stadium, as it was thought then, was not needed.
The first official match at the stadium took place in 1968 as part of the USSR championship among the teams of the third subgroup of the second group “A”. Izhevsk “ Zenith ” tied with the Leninakan “ Chirac ” - 0: 0.
Planned Reconstruction
The republic’s leadership plans to build a training field with artificial turf near the stadium, as well as build visors over the stands.
