The Union of Architects of the USSR (until 1955 - the Union of Soviet Architects ) - a public creative union that brought together architects of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics .

On April 23, 1932, the decree of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (then the All- Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) ) " On the restructuring of literary and artistic organizations " was published. On the basis of this document , in July of the same year the Union of Soviet Architects (SSA) was created. When the Union was organized, all other creative associations of architects operating in the USSR were liquidated ( MAO , LOA , OCA , ASNOVA , VOPRA , MOVANO , ARU and others). The architects V. A. Vesnin , K. S. Alabyan , V. S. Balikhin , S. F. Babaev , I. V. Zholtovsky , A. M. Zaslavsky , M. V. Kryukov , N A. Ladovsky , D.F. Friedman . In July 1933, the SSA journal “USSR Architecture” began to appear [1] .
In November 1934, the All-Union Meeting of Architects was held, at which the Organizing Committee of the Union of Soviet Architects was elected. The Presidium of the Organizing Committee included K. S. Alabyan, A. Alexandrov, V. A. Vesnin, I. V. Zholtovsky, B. M. Iofan , N. Ya. Collie , M. V. Kryukov, S. E. Chernyshev , I. Shafran, V. A. Schuko and A. V. Schusev [1] .
The charter of the creative union was adopted at the first congress of the organization, held in Moscow on June 16–26, 1937 [1] . In 1955, the organization was renamed the Union of Architects of the USSR . At the fifth and sixth congresses, in 1970 and 1975, respectively, amendments and additions were made to it. The Charter of the Union of Architects of the Soviet Union, in particular, explained the purpose of creating an organization: " ... raising the level of Soviet architecture, developing the professional skills of Soviet architects, supporting initiative and innovation in the struggle for communist ideology and multinationality of Soviet architectural art ."
The Union of Architects of the USSR included public organizations of architects of the Soviet Socialist Republics , organizations in autonomous republics , regional and regional unions, and also city organizations. In 1976, the Union of Architects of the USSR totaled 13,418 members, and this figure, after the Great Patriotic War throughout the entire existence of the organization, up to the collapse of the USSR steadily increased.
The printed organ of the Union of Architects of the USSR was the journal " Architecture of the USSR " (1933-1992) [2] .
The main governing body was the All-Union Congress of Architects, and between congresses the creative union was led by executive bodies - the board and secretariat of the Union of Architects of the USSR.
The creative union was in charge of its own architectural fund, designed to help realize the organization's goals [3] .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin (1970).
The USSR CA was a member of the International Union of Architects since the foundation of the latter; in 1972, G. M. Orlov, a member of the Union of Architects of the USSR, was elected president of the ISA.
After the declaration of independence by the Russian Federation , it was reorganized into the International Association of Architects Unions.
