History
In antiquity, a small lake in these places formed the idea of the Spirit of the lake . The legend was recorded by the 19th century folklorist V.F. Miller [1] [2] :
Near the village of Yalkhoroy, the legend says, in a place called Amka, there used to be a lake. Once the mother and daughter went to his shore and, unreasonably, began to wash dirty diapers in his crystal water. The angry Spirit of the lake for this desecration turned both women into stones, which are still visible at Amka. But the lake did not want to remain in a desecrated box. It turned into a wonderful tall bull, which crossed a rocky ridge, leaving a mark in the form of a huge recess, and went down almost from a sheer height. Then the bull went to the place where the lake now lies and where arable land was previously located. Some of the locals wanted to harness the bull to work, others said that it was God's bull and opposed his harness to the plow, but, in the end, harnessed the bull. When he drove the first furrow, dirt appeared in it: during the second it became even wetter: during the third - water emerged from the ground, with the fourth furrow the water poured rapidly, flooding the field and all people. The bull disappeared in the waves of the lake. Since then, the lake that appeared suddenly inspires superstitious fear to the natives: they consider it bottomless and do not drink its water.
The village was abandoned during the expulsion of Chechens in 1944. After rehabilitation, the Chechen population was forbidden to settle in the region [3] .
