Obstetrician ( fr. Accoucher - help during childbirth [1] ) is a paramedic, a specialist in obstetrics who provides assistance to pregnant women and women in labor (during childbirth ). In Russia, to work as a midwife, you need to get a secondary specialized education in the specialty “Medical and obstetric care”. Qualifications: “obstetrician (ka)”, “medical assistant-obstetrician”. It should not be confused with a doctor obstetrician-gynecologist (higher medical education).
Functions of midwives in the system of state obstetric care in the Russian Federation:
- reception of normal childbirth;
- Assistance in certain obstetric and gynecological operations
- first obstetric and gynecological care;
- preparation of tools for a specialist appointment;
- help to the doctor when examining a woman;
- taking smears for all types of studies (histological, bacteriological);
- statement of directions for analysis and expert advice;
- patronage of women in labor and pregnant women;
- conducting medical examination of patients and maintaining documentation on their medical examination;
- psychological preparation of the pregnant woman for childbirth;
- if necessary, conducting pediatric work of the FAP ;
- assistance to an obstetrician-gynecologist in conducting a pathological birth.
