The flag of Indonesia ( indon. Sang Saka Merah-Putih ("Sacred White and Red") or Bendera Merah-Putih ("Red and White Flag"), also simply called Merah-Putih ("Red and White") [1] ) - a panel consisting of two equal horizontal stripes: red on top and white below in a ratio of 2: 3 [1] . The colors of the flag are taken from the flowers of the kingdom of Majapahit , which reached its peak in the XIV century . After World War II, the country declared independence on August 17, 1945 and approved the red and white flag as a state flag. The flag design has remained the same since then. When Indonesia approved this flag as a state flag, there was a conflict with Monaco because of the similarity of the flags (see Monaco flag ), but the protest was rejected because the Indonesia flag was more ancient in origin than the Monaco flag.

Title
The official name of the flag in accordance with the 35th article of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia is Sang Merah-Putih . The flag is commonly called the Bendera Merah-Putih ("Red and White Flag"). Sometimes it is also called Sang Dwiwarna (bicolor). Another name, Sang Saka Merah-Putih (“Sacred White and Red”), goes back to the historical flag called Bendera Pusaka (“Flag Relic”) and its reproductions. Bendera Pusaka is a flag that was hoisted in front of the house of Sukarno on the day when he proclaimed the independence of Indonesia. The original flag of Bendera Pusaka was stitched by Fatmavati Sukarno and hoisted every day in front of the presidential palace during Independence Day. It was raised for the last time on August 17, 1968. Since then, this flag has been replaced by a reproduction because the flag sewn by Fatmawati was too fragile to use [1] .
